IER at a Glance:

History:

The Importance of environmental risk factors, motivated Tehran University of Medical Sciences to establish the “Center for Environmental Research (CER)” in 2003, CER expanded over the years and was renamed the “Institute for Environmental Research (IER)” in 2010, the first institute in the country focusing on health aspects of environmental pollution at the national level.

Based on the needs assessment, three Research Centers and four departments were established within the IER as follows:

Center for Water Quality Research (CWQR)

Center for Solid Waste Research (CSWR)

- Department of Pesticides management

Mission and Visions

The main mission of the Institute for Environmental Research is identifying environmental issues and solutions to deal with and achieve the following goals:

Producing, developing, and promoting science and technology in the field of environment and their health impacts in the country

Studying environmental risk factors and presenting the results to all stakeholders.

Providing solutions based on scientific evidence for health related environmental problems and assessing their efficacy.

Providing the necessary scientific evidence and actively participating to improve the national health systems policies on environmental issues.

Training the specialists in the field of environment

Achieving modern science and technology, and evaluating, localizing and applying it in related fields.

Developing intersectoral, regional and international cooperation with stakeholder organizations in order to achieve common goals.
